We have one of these in our hallway right above the shelf (landing dock for keys/mail/etc.) and coat rack. I had a great long rectangular frame that used to house wedding photos. I put a pretty sheet of wrapping paper in it an filled a vase with dry erase markers. We wipe it clean when guests come over (normally) but otherwise use it as a grocery list, message board and general note-space.
